macOS Catalina 10.15

                 macOS Catalina 10.15

Preview Image

macOS Catalina is the 16th major release of macOS, Apple's desktop operating system for its computer line-up of devices. Officially deemed version 10.15, Apple continues to derive its core OS from Unix while adding many new features to augment the existing framework of services that users have come to know and love. This time out Apple has further experimented with the macOS DNA to inject iPad functionality, as well as extending the working environment for users of both device types.
Technical requirements:

  • OS X 10.8 or later
  • 2 GB of memory
  • 15 GB of available storage to perform upgrade
  • Some features require an Apple ID
  • Some features require internet access

R.I.P iTunes.

Yes you heard it right iTunes is no more. You won’t find iTunes app that we’ve been using on our Mac for nearly two decades on new macOS Catalina. But don’t worry guys iTunes is replaced by new apps (AppleMusic, ApplePodcasts, AppleTV)

Well tackle apps in macOS Catalina

Apple Music: Now your entire purchases and ripped music library and playlists will be in Music
Apple TV: your Movies and TV Shows libraries will be in TV.
Apple Podcasts: now you can save your podcasts in dedicated app provided in macOS Catalina

Devices Supporting macOS Catalina?
  • MacBook Pro: 2012 and later
  • MacBook Air: 2012 and later
  • Mac Mini: 2012 and later
  • iMac: 2012 and later
  • iMac Pro: 2017 and later
  • Mac Pro: 2013 and later, with a Metal-capable GPU

When will macOS Catalina be available?
Apple began to seed the very first version of macOS Catalina. A beta billed as the Developer's Preview will give registered developers first access to Catalina to begin testing their applications and port iPad apps over to macOS for cross-platform support (if they choose to do so). In recent years,
Apple has opened registration to allow end users to download and install betas of macOS for testing purposes. The Public Beta program is available as of June 24, 2019.
Apple will release multiple iterations of each in a concerted effort to locate and squash bugs that could otherwise render devices unusable. If you want to wait for Apple to finishing working out any kinks and polish the OS, it's advisable to hold off until the final release is available in the Fall of 2019.

How can I get macOS Catalina?
Mac enthusiasts who are already registered with the Apple Beta Program will be able to download the macOS Catalina package later this summer and upgrade their supported Mac computer to test out the newest features for free—in exchange for allowing Apple to collect crash logs and bug reports of the still-in-production software to correct issues prior to the final code release.

Worldwide release of macOS Catalina is expected to arrive as a free download on the Mac App Store during the Fall of 2019.

What if I don’t (or can’t) update my Mac to Catalina?
Apple is billing the new media apps as a Catalina feature, so presumably older Macs will stick with iTunes for the foreseeable future. It’s possible that Apple sends out a future update to older version of macOS that deprecates iTunes, but that hasn’t been announced.

How do I manage my iTunes account?
Managing your iTunes account works pretty much the same way as it does now. Each of the media apps will have an “Account” menu in the top bar, where you’ll find the usual options: Authorizations, Sign Out, etc. Click on View My Account and you’ll be taken to your usual account page, where you can update your credit card info and address, and see your purchases.
